After quite a few hours in the air, our team made it to Nairobi this evening/morning! (It is currently 1:45 am here haha)

We really hit the ground running! DIA was surprisingly smooth, although I did get randomly flagged for an extra check and my electronics got swabbed for bombs. But cute dogs and just a short delay.

Unfortunately, because of the storm we had another hour delay once we got on the plane.

Then we had one of the roughest takeoffs I've ever experienced — I'm pretty sure we dropped a couple hundred feet one time!

Then there was a medical emergency onboard where they called for some doctors (little did they know they had a plane full of medical people :)) thankfully, the lady was just having a panic attack from all the turbulence and we were able to calm her down relatively easily.

The rest of the flight from Denver to Paris was uneventful!

But then we got to Paris.

With 45 minutes to make our connection...

With 22 people...

Through the international port.

All was going smoothly and we got deplaned really fast and moved through the airport quickly but then we saw it.

A bay of metal detectors and a snaking line of people and suitcases as far as the eye could see.

And the clock isn't slowing down.

But we made it to the front because of our connection and then realized all our liquids, electronics, and full water bottles were in our bag!!

Chaos ensued and watches were being ripped off, phones were being thrown, and I chugged 24 oz of water in probably record time (I would have had someone time me, but all the watches were already gone lol)

We make it through the metal detectors and we are trying to reassemble our lives when we realize half our bags got snagged for a second check...

At this point our plane is boarding the third set of passengers.

I got sent ahead to hold the gate so I take off running for our gate which HAS to be a the end of the terminal.

The last member of our team steps on the plane, and they close the doors behind him.

Oh boy!!!

Graciously the rest of the flight and airport stuff was uneventful. Yummy food and good company :)

We got to the MOHI guesthouse probably around midnight and they welcomed us with songs and fresh juice!! It brought tears to lots of our team's eyes!!

This trip has already had so much happen and we haven't even been in Nairobi for more than two hours! I cannot wait to see what else God has in store on this trip.

Praise God for getting us through all that travel!! And praise God for what lies ahead!!

Blessings,

Shawna

(Please excuse any typos, it's very late 😆)
