Do You Trust Me?

“I want you to go to the Philippines.”

“But it’s a long, expensive trip and I can’t go with my husband. Plus it’s all fish and boats and I don’t do well with either!”

“Do you trust Me?”

“I want you to wash My people’s feet.”

“But I really hate feet, can’t I use my medical skills somewhere else?”

“Do you trust Me?”

“I want you to lead worship for the team.”

“But I can’t really sing well enough…”

“Do you trust Me?”

“I want you to teach public health.”

“But I don’t know how!”

“Do you trust Me?”

“I want you to sing at church”

“But…”

“Do you trust Me?”

There have been so many times I have felt way outside of my comfort zone during this trip, which is kind of hard to do for me! And every time, I have felt the Lord’s hand on my shoulder and a gentle, “do you trust Me?”

Well, yeah, I trust God… but I don’t trust me! I’ve heard over and over that God equips the called, and this trip has also been a test of my faith in that! And God is so good! He cares for His people so well! I really love Him so much 😆

He tells us in scripture to lean not on our own understanding and to trust in Him with all of our hearts. Even the things that are outside our comfort zones. Even when it doesn’t make sense. Every single time that I have felt myself getting worked up and anxious about something on this trip, that gentle, fatherly presence asks, “do you trust Me?” It’s been reminding me that I really do trust Him and believe that He is guiding my steps. And that I can rest in that knowledge.

So as we wrap up our day of rest here before finishing our clinic over the next couple of days, I just want to sit in my Father’s arms and be reminded that I trust Him and He’s got me.
